Can finance really be entertaining?

Although I teach a broad range of subjects, I have been teaching Financial & Business Skills (FBS) to trainee solicitors longer than any other subject – since January 2000, in fact. I am now proud to be fresh’s examiner and lead editor, with responsibility for the annual post-budget update (silent groan!). Though I must say the contributions of our other FBS trainers are essential in ensuring the ongoing quality of the course materials - not least in spotting and correcting my many literary bloopers.

Employment Tribunal Advocacy

I retired recently after a 21 year stint as an employment  judge. Throughout that period I was treated [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent="yes" overflow="visible"][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type="1_1" background_position="left top" background_color="" border_size="" border_color="" border_style="solid" spacing="yes" background_image="" background_repeat="no-repeat" padding="" margin_top="0px" margin_bottom="0px" class="" id="" animation_type="" animation_speed="0.3" animation_direction="left" hide_on_mobile="no" center_content="no" min_height="none"][and often entertained!] by styles of advocacy ranging from inept to excellent. Surprisingly, perhaps, it was not always the most experienced and professionally qualified advocates who performed consistently well. I have fond memories of half a dozen or so litigants in person demonstrating admirable skill in presenting their cases succinctly and clearly.
